Estêvão Filipe Chissano

BIO

Estêvão Filipe Chissano (*1994), Mozambican composer, attended the Geology course at Eduardo University Mondlane. He is a music student (Choir, Direction and Composition) and teacher of musical initiation at the Xiquitsi Project, a non-profit project which is aimed at integration and inclusion through collective music practice.

He starts composing in 2015 with Daniel Moreira and Filipe Fernades. Participated in artistic residencies twice in Lisbon, first at Escola Superior de Musica in the composition class with Carlos Marecos, Luís Tinoco, Sérgio Azevedo, Carlos Caires, Jaime Reis and Roberto Pérez and the second time at the Youth Program Composers – Víctor Córdon Studios, between January and July, coordinated by the Luís Tinoco, Joana Craveiro (director and playwright) and Víctor Hugo (choreographer) And he was part of the 8th Sterkfontein Composers Meeting, a program coordinated by composer Michael Blake that brings together young African composers in South Africa.

In his works, he seeks to explore different musical instruments, techniques and textures, from traditional to contemporary and different including electronic music . His compositions have been part of the Classical Music Season in Maputo and have already played in the different countries, such as Japan, UK, Brazil, Portugal, Norway and South Africa.
