Nigeria: Khaid announces EP ahead of debut album release
23 Jun 2026 - 11:30
Nigerian singer and songwriter Khaid has announced the release of B4R&W (Before Rich & Wacko), a four-track EP that will precede his forthcoming debut album, Rich & Wacko.
The project is intended to introduce themes and musical styles that will be explored in greater detail on the full-length album. According to the artist, the EP examines a range of emotions and experiences, including vulnerability, ambition, uncertainty and resilience.
The title B4R&W references the period before the events and ideas explored on ‘Rich & Wacko’. Khaid said the project reflects a stage of personal growth and self-discovery.
Explaining the concept behind the album title, he said: “‘Wacko’ to me is streetwise confidence. It’s how you carry yourself in tough situations and stay solid no matter the circumstance.
“For me, Rich & Wacko captures this point in my life where I’ve built some money and influence. People might see the branding and assume I’m just a ‘rich kid’ from a wealthy family. But the truth is, I grew up on the street. I lived it. I experienced it.”
Khaid said the album would explore two contrasting sides of his artistic identity.
“The ‘Rich’ songs represent the sound people already know me for melodic, sweet records like ‘Jolie’, ‘With You’ and ‘Jara’. Even my trap records still carry that ‘Rich’ vibe.
“The ‘Wacko’ songs are the side they’re not used to. I’m excited to give the audience that experience.
“The four songs on this EP are a preview. Each one represents a different version of what’s coming on the album.”
The lead single from the EP, ‘GO GO!’, is an Afrobeats track built around upbeat rhythms and themes of confidence, ambition and self-expression. The song serves as the project's introduction and offers an indication of the direction Khaid plans to take on the forthcoming album.
Khaid has emerged as one of the younger artists gaining attention within Nigeria’s contemporary music scene. The release of B4R&W marks the latest step in his career as he prepares for the launch of his debut album, Rich & Wacko.
