The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has become the first African female artist to receive a Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for a single in the United States.

Tems.

The certification was awarded for ‘Wait For U’, Future’s collaboration featuring Tems and Canadian rapper Drake. The song has surpassed 10 million certified units in the US, meeting the threshold for an RIAA Diamond certification.

According to music analytics platform Chart Data, the single has now reached 11 million certified units in the US. In a post on X, the platform stated: "US Certifications (@RIAA): Future (@1future) Feat. @Drake & @temsbaby, WAIT FOR U 11x Platinum (11,000,000)."

An RIAA Diamond certification is awarded to singles or albums that achieve at least 10 million certified units through combined sales and eligible streaming activity in the United States.

The milestone makes Tems only the second African artist to earn an RIAA Diamond-certified single. Nigerian artist Wizkid was the first, receiving the certification for his contribution to Drake's One Dance.

Released in 2022, ‘Wait For U’ samples Tems’ song ‘Higher’ and went on to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track also won the Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

The achievement adds to a series of international milestones for Tems, who has emerged as one of Africa’s most prominent global music exports. Since gaining international recognition, she has collaborated with several high-profile artists and received multiple Grammy Awards and nominations.

The certification also reflects the continued global commercial success of Nigerian music and the growing international reach of Afrobeats and related genres.

Following the announcement, fans and industry observers took to social media to congratulate the singer, with many describing the achievement as another landmark moment for Nigerian music and African artists on the global stage.
