Spotify adds control to exclude kids’ music from personalised recommendations, Wrapped
16 Sep 2026 - 15:01
Spotify has introduced a new setting that allows parents and other listeners to prevent children’s and family music from influencing their personalised recommendations, listening insights and annual Wrapped results.
Spotify executive chairman Daniel Ek.
The feature began rolling out globally on mobile devices on 15 September 2026 and is available to both Free and Premium users. The setting is enabled by default, meaning children’s and family music continues to contribute to a user’s taste profile until they choose to switch it off.
The setting covers music such as songs from children’s animated films, family television programmes, nursery rhymes and other content specifically created for younger listeners.
Once disabled, streams of children’s and family music will no longer influence personalised features including Discover Weekly, Daily Mix and Wrapped. Spotify said the change also applies retrospectively, meaning previous listening to children’s music will be excluded from relevant recommendations and Wrapped data.
“The new toggle is a one-tap feature […] set to include kids and family music in your taste profile by default, but you can turn it off anytime,” Spotify said. “Doing so quickly removes the influence of listening to kids and family music on your recommendations, keeping them focused on your taste.”
The company said listeners can continue searching for, streaming and creating playlists featuring children’s and family music after switching off the setting.
To activate the feature on mobile, users can:
- Open Settings and privacy by tapping their profile picture.
- Select Content and display.
- Switch off “Include kids and family music in taste profile”.
Spotify said it can take up to 48 hours for the change to be reflected in personalised recommendations.
The new setting builds on Spotify’s existing tools for managing personalised recommendations. In 2025, the platform introduced the ability to exclude individual tracks from a user’s taste profile, expanding an earlier option that allowed users to exclude entire playlists.
Spotify has also expanded its managed accounts for younger listeners. These accounts provide children with a separate listening environment, personalised recommendations and their own Wrapped experience, while allowing parents and guardians to manage content and other settings.
The latest update gives parents another way to separate their own listening profile from music played for children while retaining access to that music when needed.
