Assa Matusse

Assa Matusse, a Mozambican singer who has represented Mozambique twice at the UNESCO headquarters in France, has just released her second studio album.

Entitled "Mutchangana", the artist's new work was produced by producers from different parts of the world, including Mozambicans, and is intended as a tribute to her father and to all the Bantu [Africa's largest ethnolinguistic people] who, for whatever reason, have been prevented from speaking and expressing themselves in their native languages.

In parallel with the release of the album, Assa has also made available the music video for the title track of the project. The visual treatment of "Mutchangana" is a reflection of Assa's creative universe, inspired by the clothes, dances and rituals rooted in Mozambique.

In "Mutchangana", Assa Matusse sings lyrics of his own in four languages - Xi Changana, Portuguese, French and English - and mixes his unique, unmistakable and melodic voice with a vast diversity of sounds, from traditional African rhythms to blues and modernist guitar and keyboard sounds.

With the launch concert scheduled for April 8 at the Salle New Morning in Paris, Assa Matusse is preparing to showcase the diversity of rhythms and life experiences of Mozambicans and their Xi Changana language on one of the most prestigious stages in French-speaking countries.
