Nonku Vundla, better known as Black Bird, is a Zimbabwean rapper who first rose to prominence in South Africa while studying film-making.
Vundla was born in South Africa to exiled parents who were living in Harare. In 2010 she released her debut album 'Tha Rappetizer', making her the country's first female rapper to release an album. The album features songs such as 'Oooh' and 'Dollar Rand Naira'. She was also the first female rapper to perform at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA). In 2011, she released a mixtape 'Mixtape Memoirs'.
Her music earned her fame prompting her to get invited to perform at Alliance Française, The Book Cafe, The Mannenburg and Stars Nightclub. She has worked with various artists such as Sesotho Crew Baleloko, the late Andy Brown, Jazz P (Swaziland), Thanda and Hoodlum (South Africa). Besides music, Vundla is an experienced radio journalist.
