COTA Youth Choir Namibia

Bio

The COTA Youth Choir Namibia is a music ensemble of young singers from the College Of The Arts in Windhoek. Their music is a collection of Western, classical and African music. The choir is under the headship of Fanie Dorfling.

In 2009, they came third in the Namibian National Coral. In 2010, they were the first Namibian choir to represent the country at the ATKV-Animato Choir Competition Finals in Pretoria. They were named Best Youth Choir and also won Best African Song. In 2011, they represented Namibia for the second time in the ATKV-Animato Choir competition. They came second overall and won the Best Prescribed Song category. They released their second CD in December 2011. In June 2012, the choir received a Gold award in the Animato Regionals and represented Namibia in September 2012 in South Africa. The choir visited the Bach Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany in 2012, where they performed Bach and Namibian traditional music. That same year, the choir received two gold awards at the World Choir Games in Cincinnati, USA. This was followed by a Best Contemporary Song award at the 2012 International Animato Competition in Cape Town, South Africa.

In 2013, the choir performed with the Windhoek Philharmonic Orchestra. In June 2014, they toured Bulgaria and Sweden before heading to Riga, Latvia for the 2014 World Choir Games, where the choir received three Gold Medals in the Championship for Scenic Folklore, Musica Sacra and Spiritual categories, as well as silver in the Mixed Youth Choir category.
