David Jay
Bio
David Jay (real name Dawda Jatta) is an RnB, soul and pop artist from The Gambia. He was born in July 1986 to a Danish mother and Gambian father. He was raised in a multi-cultural setup where both music and visuals materialized. His love and passion for music helped him create a stable musical level and sound that appeals to a large audience and international scene.
His music career kicked off in 2011. He worked hard to make a name for himself and released mixtape titled ‘So Disrespectful’ that same year. The musical project was a launching pad of his career as a soul and RnB artist.
In May 2012, he released a single called Africa Is The Future’ followed by his maiden EP called ‘Evil Circle’. In 2013, he released a debut album titled ‘I am David Jay’. The album was released through Warner Music Denmark. The offering featured artists like Wafande, Joey Moe, Lazee (SE), Waqas Ali (Outlandish), ADH (US) and Negash Ali. In 2014, he won the Upcoming Artist of the Year at the Celebrate Africa Awards.
In 2015, he released another mixtape entitled ‘NewGenerationDeekay’. Some of his popular singles are ‘Africa is The Future’, ‘Show Ya Wine’ and ‘Looking For Love’.
