Kabelo Monnathebe
Bio
Kabelo Monnathebe is a violinist and violin teacher from South Africa. He started playing the violin in 1998 at Acosa String Project before joining the Buskaid String Academy a year later. He was inspired by his uncles, who form part of the Soweto String Quartet. Through the Buskaid Academy he had the opportunity to audition for a place at The Royal Academy Of Music in London, UK. He was offered a scholarship by the Academy and obtained his Bmus (hons) degree in 2013.
Kabelo has since returned to South Africa working as a freelancer and a violin teacher. Initially teaching at Buskaid before exploring other teaching spaces to perhaps inspire more youth in South Africa. Kabelo has ambitions to follow in his uncles shoes by using the string quartet and rhythm section combination to fuse classical instruments and traditional local music.
