Linda Muthama
Bio
Linda Muthama is an energetic performer and dancer who encourages her crowd to get up and dance with her. No one in the crowd seems to mind that her songs are in different languages that no one can speak. They are way too absorbed and hypnotized by the singer onstage in front of them. She sings in her native language, kikuyu, Kiswahili and English.
Linda was born in Tigoni in Limuru, Kenya on July 6 1983. She is second in a family of five. Her father was a music composer of traditional folk tunes, a music teacher and choir instructor. She started off singing with her sisters in church at the age of six.
Linda was inspired by the music she heard back then and that was how she first experienced the stage. She joined music school to study piano and voice and in 2003 she received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, USA.
Among the instruments she plays are piano, guitar, chivoti, marimba and ohangla drums from Kenya.
Linda holds a first class honors from Kenyatta University (Bachelor of Music) and a Masters in Music Education.
She has traveled to Finland (University of Jyvaskyla) on Exchange and studied Music Business and Music Copyright.
She has shared the stage with some of the most respected Kenyan musicians such as Eric Wainaina, Suzanna Owiyo, Omawumi from Uganda, and Lira and Hugh Masekhela from South Africa. She has also performed with Jabali Afrika in Washington DC.
She has released a two-track album titled ‘Ne Muciare’ (2007) -- which means 'he is born' -- a Christmas album. The Album’s instant success cast her as one of the most formidable female artists in Kenya and attracted additional recognition and fame.
Her second album, titled ‘Imajination’ was released in July 2009. In it she explores the depths of her soul. She has released two videos for the Album ‘Imajination’ namely ‘Harambee’ and ‘U Want It’. With these Albums she has toured Europe, USA, Uganda and Tanzania where she has been received with so much enthusiasm for her world class act.
Apart from singing, Linda has featured in several Kenyan musicals, taking lead roles in more than ten of them. Some of the musicals she has performed in are ‘Lwanda Magere,' ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ and many others
