BIO
Major Bangz is a Nigerian producer famous for his work with rapper Phyno. Born Michael Archibong in 1988, he holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Nsukka in South-east Nigeria and grew in Benue, in a state in Nigeria’s middle-belt region. Just Blaze, Neptunes, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, Rick Rubin and Kanye West are some of his influences and inspiration.
While attending the University of Nigeria, Major Bangz met a couple of producers and together they formed ‘The Department of Sound’. A group of young men tinkering with sounds and using diskettes to save these sounds, one of them decided they could give their sounds to recording artists. Later they met singer Waje’s manager at the time and gave the singer a beat. Waje recorded a song on the beat but it was never released.
Major Bangz, now solo, scored a minor hit in 2011 with Diva’s Etighi. He moved to Lagos later that year and signed to Mogul Music for a few years. Before his contract expired the producer contacted Phyno. Together they have produced some well-known songs including ‘Parcel’ and ‘Alobam’, culminating in Phyno’s debut album ‘No Guts, No Glory’ (2014).
Major Bangz also produced Lil Kesh’s major hit ‘Shoki’ (2014). He worked on the Olamide/Phyno collaborative album ‘2 Kings’ (2015).
