Marcus Wyatt

BIO

Born in 1971, Marcus Wyatt, a native of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, has been blowing his horn since 1983. He is part of a new generation of South African musicians, moving forward, respectful of the past without being afraid of twisting boundaries. This trumpet player has performed around the globe, and worked with an impressive array of musicians, including Manu Dibango, Abdullah Ibrahim, Miriam Makeba, Hotep Idris Galeta, Vusi Mahlasela, Judith Sephuma and Courtney Pine.

His first two albums, Gathering (2000) and Africans in Space (2002) featured South Africa's finest jazz musicians, and were both been nominated for Samas. They were followed by Language 12 (2006) and ZAR (2011), which was also nominated for a Sama, as was a live DVD, Live At House of Nsako (2009). Wyatt has played every major festival in South Africa, as well as overseas at the North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland), Stockholm Jazz Festival (Sweden) and The Villa Celimontana Festival in Rome, Italy. In September and October 2013 he embarked on a tour of Europe.
