BIO
Midimu Collective derives its name from "Midimu," a term from the Makonde Tribe of East Africa, combined with the concept of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface). In Makonde culture, Midimu represents the ancestral spirits which are present during various tribal ceremonies.
These ceremonies are often celebrated through dance and music. The essence of Midimu Collective, is about bringing people together through the communal power of music and dance. We strive to create events which bring people together to celebrate the joys of life.
The collective is composed of three Tanzanian house DJs (colloquially known as Aziz, Big Sam and Pweza) who are supported by Alyssa and Baraka. As one of the first DJ collectives in Tanzania, Midimu Collective aims to introduce and popularise House Music, particularly Afro-House, in a country where the electronic music scene is still developing.
