Mx Blouse

Mx Blouse is a South African alternative rap artist, based in Johannesburg. The artist, whose eclectic sound has historically been a melange of South African dance sonics, including kwaito and house, recently pivoted to something more laid back, with hints of R&B, jazz and lofi. This is music the artist refers to as 'homebody blues'. Lyrically, Mx Blouse's music concerns itself with questions around intimacy, spirituality, and self-awareness, as embodied in their latest EP, titled 'Emotional Home' (2024).

Mx Blouse's debut EP 'Re: Mx' (2019) spawned critically acclaimed singles like 'No Match', which was named by Apple Music One of the 100 Best Songs of 2019, and 'Papgeld' which carried the #33 spot on Tidal's global Best Electronic of 2019.

The follow-up, 'Elementality'(2020), received rave reviews from a variety of publications and got playlisted on BBC 6 among other stations. Mx Blouse has performed at festivals including the now-defunct Oppikoppi, Basha Uhuru, Design Indaba Nightscapes, and Smoking Dragon, in addition to completing two successful tours in Europe, playing in cities across France, Germany, and Switzerland.
