Alex Apoko popularly known as 'Ringtone' first hit the gospel scene with the song 'Maisha.' As his fame grew he would partner with Silk to produce the hit 'Nimebadilika'.

A former streetboy, Ringtone used music- and lots of luck- to move off the streets to the suburbs.
In 2004 while working in a movie shop in Mombasa, his employer helped him to shoot a video of one of the songs he had composed and it became an instant hit. That was the turning point in his life and his gospel music career and after that he began receiving invitations to minister in different places with his music.

He would later move to Nairobi, which was the centre of all the action, and with the assistance of a fellow musician, Rufftone, he started cutting hit after another, his fame soaring overnight. He would later make an unsuccessful foray into politics.
