Timi Dakolo
Bio
Timi Dakolo is a Nigerian singer. One of the most acclaimed vocalists in the country, Dakolo got his break when he won the talent hunt show Idols West Africa in 2007. He was born in Ghana’s capital Accra to a Ghanaian mother and Nigerian father in 1981.
The young Dakolo learned singing from his grandmother as a child in Port Harcourt. He sang in church as a preteen and was member of Purple Love, a group dominant locally at the time. The group later broke up in 2005 after the members went to university.
By 2006, Dakolo had won a local talent hunt. He auditioned for West Africa idols, which he won, sparking expectations on a debut album. Those wishes were mostly defeated for years as delays set in. A few singles were released, including ‘Let it Shine’ and ‘Heaven Please’.
Finally, by 2011, the debut album ‘Beautiful Noise’ was released. Although half its contents were previously released the album met with acclaim. It was produced mainly by his frequent collaborator Cobhams Asuquo.
A few other singles have been released including ‘Iyawo Mi’, with the audience looking forward to a sophomore. Dakolo won the Headies award for Best Vocal Performance at the 2014 Headies ceremony.
