BIO
Born in Harare, Zimbabwe on 29 November 1993, Obey Makamure, popularly known as Tocky Vibes, is a Zimbabwean dancehall artist, songwriter and lyricist. His passion for music began at an earlier stage. His parents did not like the idea of him becoming a musician because they wanted him to focus on his studies. They moved him to their rural home in Chivi, Masvingo Province. He later relocated to their farm in Rusape. A dancehall artist called Guspy Warrior assisted him to start his music career and this saw Tocky Vibes making frequent visits in Harare to record his music.
At 16, he relocated to Harare where he met one of Zimbabwe’s top dancehall artist called Winky D. This saw him recording his debut song ‘Tirikumhanya Kunokwira Helicopter’. In 2011, he recorded his second song called ‘Vavengi’. In 2015, he released his debut album ‘Toti Toti’. He has also released a number of songs such as ‘KaBabie’, ‘KePasa Passa’, ‘Chii Nemi’, ‘Dziripo Hama’, ‘Vane Godo’, ‘Ndini Ndinorira’, ‘Handityi’ and many others.
In March 2015, he won the following categories Best Male Artist, Best Social Message and Song of the Year categories at Zim Dancehall Awards. In February 2015, he also won the Outstanding Song and Outstanding Album categories at the National Arts and Merit awards. His maiden tour was in England.
