Richie Lumambo

BIO

Richie Lumambo is a guitarist - singer - songwriter from Tanzania. His music is inspired by different tribes throughout Tanzania as well as Western soul grooves.

He describes his music as Afro Traditional Soul with a message of strength and hope. Richie is currently writing and performing with his own 6 piece band based in Dar Es Salaam. The result is a powerful East African groove focusing on Richie’s unique guitar style and soaring vocals. His intention is to bring together players of his own age with great musical ability in order to showcase his generations’ skills.

Richie studied classical guitar at the Dhow Countries Music Academy (DCMA) in Zanzibar for three years where he and fellow students formed The Mapanya Band.

In 2019 Lumambo released his debut solo single entitled Safari which includes guitar, voice, bass, drums, percussion, violin and trumpet in a lush production.

Richie began playing guitar, singing and writing music at a young age. He has also been performing in bands and as a solo artist since 2015.

Currently Richie is busy writing new material and performing with his own band in Dar Es Salaam including regular gigs at The Slow Leopard and The Goethe-Institut. Festival performances include the Bagamoyo Festival Oct 2019 and Dec 2020, Marafiki Festival Oct 2020, Alliance Francaise Jan 2021, Kan Festival Jan 2021 and Sauti za Busara Feb 2021. His other recent performances include those as lead vocalist and guitarist with Mapanya Band at various Festivals and venues around Zanzibar and Dar Es Salaam.

Besides his performing career, Richie also teaches his own brand of Music Therapy. He believes music has the power to calm and nourish todays stressed and troubled minds.
