Vuyo Brown
Bio
Vuyo Brown is a Zimbabwean Singer, Songwriter, and Contemporary Christian Musician (born Nokufeza Vuyolethu Ngwenya 30 January 1992). Not boxed in by a particular sound, Vuyo Brown proudly embraces the title of a multi-genre artist. Her passion lies in exploring the essence of God through her art, with a mission to introducing her listeners to a reality outside their own and leaving them revived and wholesome.
Vuyo Brown's musical journey began in childhood, with her passion for singing blossoming at a young age. By the time she was 9, she delved into experimenting with various instruments, setting the stage for her extraordinary musical exploration. At 14, she joined her church music team, and in high school, she immersed herself in the Vernacular and A cappella choirs at the Dominican Convent High School, Bulawayo.
In 2016, Vuyo Brown released her debut single, "NdiJesu," followed by "Tichatamba" in 2017. The latter gained significant recognition, earning airtime on Premier Gospel and Salt FM, two prominent UK radio stations. Building on her success, she released her debut album, "Grace Fulfilled," in 2018.
However, it was her breakout single, "Thula Wazi" (Be Still and Know), released in 2019, that propelled Vuyo to new heights. This inspiring anthem of hope resonated deeply, topping the charts on Skyzmetro FM and Khulumani FM Gospel for several weeks. It also secured a spot in the Top 10 on the ZiFM Top 40 Chart, captivating audiences across the nation. The music video continues to captivate viewers regionally on channels like Trace and One Gospel.
As a songwriter and vocalist Vuyo Brown increasingly exhibits her versatility through musical collaborations: “I Need You” an up-tempo Amapiano song by South African artist Speedy , Smile by contemporary hip-hop producer Rayo Beats and “Ndiyabulela” an Afro house song by Sifiso M from Swaziland, Love Me Now an EDM track by Spanish DJ and producer La Santa and Biz'abanye by Brazil's Sparrow&Barbossa.
“Vuyani” and “No Way” are her recent bodies of work. “Vuyani” currently plays on MTV base and radio stations regionally across Southern and East Africa, and “No Way” is on rotation across Southern and East Africa as well.
Beyond her musical pursuits, Vuyo Brown is deeply committed to contributing to the creative and cultural industries. She served as a mentor for the "Voice 2 Rep" competition (which nurtures emerging talent) in her country for two years and the Musicable Project under POVO Afrika (which works with people with disabilities). Additionally, she works as a songwriter and vocal director, lending her expertise to various artists and church music teams while mentoring aspiring musicians.
