SA: Lucasraps featured on Apple Music Up Next
Apple Music has announced South African rapper Lucasraps as its latest Up Next artist.
The announcement follows Lucasraps’ recording deal with Def Jam Recordings Africa, which made him the label’s first signee in 2021.
The musician will be featured on Apple Music’s South African Up Next playlist, which includes a dynamic class of new and emerging artists who are handpicked by Apple Music’s editors around the world.
“I’m grateful to have been selected for Apple Music Up Next South Africa,” Lucasraps said. “I assure you 031 To The World will be the most phenomenal sonically superior South African hip hop project. This is why God chose me, this is why I'm the Y.O.G.”
The news follows the release of his 11-track album 031 To The World, which is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms. The album was produced by a plethora of heavyweight producers including Gemini Major, Christer, Vaughn Fourie and Nash. 031 To The World pays homage to his upbringing, struggles and victories, and is a fusion of “hardcore rap, laidback grooves, and dancefloor tunes.”
Born Lucas Duncan Malong in Cape Town, Lucasraps burst onto the music scene in 2016 with his debut single ‘Ammo’ featuring DJ Maphorisa. He has made appearances on a number of projects that solidified his name as an act to look out for. He has worked with Dr Peppa, Riky Rick, Chang Cello and Blxckie.
The vast global Up Next roster of past talent includes Rema, Mr Eazi, Burna Boy, 6lack, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Greta Van Fleet, Khalid and Amy Shark, among others.
