ACCES 2018 to zoom in on Africa’s streaming economy

Titled Africa's Booming Streaming Economy – Opportunities & Challenges, the session seeks to address the state of Africa’s streaming industry, identifying both its advantages and drawbacks.

“We can’t afford to ignore the impact made by music streaming on our music industry,” Music In Africa Foundation director Eddie Hatitye said. “It’s important to put this discussion in the spotlight in order to get an idea of the effect music streaming has on the continent and its musicians. The discussion will benefit musicians, music professionals and fans."

The panel will be moderated by South Africa's Composers, Authors and Publishers Association (CAPASSO) head of legal and business affairs Wiseman Qinani Ngubo (South Africa). Panellists include Mdundo head of music Shyqo Koinange (Kenya), Spinlet CEO John Ajah (Nigeria), The Orchard vice-president for France, Benelux and West Africa Ben Oldfield, Deezer head of operations in South Africa Gillian Ezra and Sheer Publishing managing director David Alexander (South Africa), who will share their professional insight of the continent's music streaming economy.

Apart from discussing the economics at play and what the future holds for this sector, the panellists will also provide the audience with information about how to effectively utilise streaming services and platforms to boost their careers.

The session runs from 14.40pm to 15.50 on Friday 16 November 2018 at the Kenya National Theatre.
