Boomplay Music wins app award
Popular music app Boomplay has won recognition at the AppsAfrica.com Awards, a platform celebrating technology in Africa
The Boomplay app beat off competition from the Africa-wide app, Truecaller, one Ghanaian app, Asorbia, and two South African apps, Feastfox and Carter, to win the Best African App category at the awards party held on 6 November. Boomplay’s triumph means it is the first on-demand streaming and downloading app to win the award.
Boomplay was launched in 2015 by Tecno Mobile and had amassed more than 16 million users by last month, the company said. The app received a makeover in March this year in a bid to enhance its user interface.
“We wanted to give music lovers a more personal feel while ensuring all user complaints and requests are adequately attended to and implemented in the new version,” the company’s general manager of operations, Oye Akideinde, said.
The AppsAfrica.com Awards were launched three years ago and has become an important event in the tech calendar on the continent. This year's winners will exhibit their work at a tech summit in Kigali, Rwanda, in February.
“Bagging the award for the best African app showcases our renewed efforts to build a sustainable ecosystem for content providers, while ensuring that content consumption is a walk in the park for our users,” Boomplay Music managing director Joe He said.
“The growth we have experienced in only a little over two years is super impressive. On behalf of Boomplay Music, we are emboldened by this recognition and will continue to sharpen our focus towards confronting digital content consumption challenges with new and adaptive innovations through technology.”
