Call for auditions: National School of the Arts 2024 intake in SA

The NSA is a school of specialisation in performing and creative arts where creatively gifted pupils from Grades 8 to 12 can excel artistically and academically. Admission to the school depends on a successful audition in either music, art, dance and drama.

Requirements

The below audition material is required in all disciplines:

• Certified copy ID or birth certificate.
• Photo (passport size).
• Certified copy of 2023 term 1 report.
• Certified copy of applying parent ID.
• Certified copy of proof of residence.

There is an option to upload a video audition submission, although all final auditions will be in person.

Note: The NSA is a Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) school of specialisation and is for highly talented pupils only. The maximum number of pupils per year per grade is 110 split across all four disciplines.

All applications should be done online in the below disciplines:

• Music
• Dance
• Drama
• Art

The deadline is 10 May. Once the online application is complete, the admissions office will contact the applicant with an audition time. Auditions are by appointment only, to manage the demand and to ensure the day runs smoothly for all concerned.

Pupils who pass the NSA audition and receive an offer for a place in 2024 will only be officially accepted and enrolled on receipt of the GDE reference number confirming their registration on the GDE admissions website. The GDE online registration is non-negotiable.

“We are pleased to announce that we will be auditioning for our new intake on 13 and 27 May,” NSA principal Salome Gaelesiwe said. “We are mindful that the admission process can be stressful for parents and learners. We want to get a head start so that once the GDE online system opens, we already have a clear indication of those who have succeeded in their audition and those who have not. Our learners pursue their real passion every day, and that, coupled with the discipline and dedication needed to excel in the arts, translates into their academic work.”
