Call for nominations: 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
The organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) are now accepting submissions ahead of the 22nd edition of the annual event.
Organised by Charterhouse Ghana, the event is held in partnership with the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. It celebrates outstanding musical achievements in the country and across the continent in various genres including highlife, Afropop, hiplife and traditional music.
The call applies to Ghanaian musicians who have released songs between 1 January and 31 December 2020. All submissions must be made online.
To participate, artists or their representatives can complete the entry forms here.
Entries will close on 15 February 2021.
Last year, the awards ceremony was held virtually on 28 and 29 August due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The scheme also honoured the efforts of health workers during the crisis.
Highlife singer Kuami Eugene won the coveted Artist of the Year Award. He also picked up his third Highlife Artist of the Year trophy. Other fixtures at the VGMAs, including Sarkodie, Medikal and Kofi Kinaata, will also be looking to make their mark this year.
Meanwhile, the date for the main event, which is traditionally held in April or May, is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Like previous years, it will be preceded by supporting events, notably the Countdown Series, which will be broadcast on local TV stations.
