The International Chamber Competition Franz Schubert and Modern Music is calling on young piano, violin and violoncello composers around the world to submit compositions for the 11th edition of the competition, taking place at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, in February 2021.
The call aims to create new works for chamber music. The composition should be performed as a trio for piano, violin and violoncello and should be submitted with a maximum performance duration of 15 minutes.
The winning work will be programmed as a compulsory piece in the above-mentioned competition in February 2021 and will be performed several times.

Interested composers should send entries to [email protected]. The subjection line should read: 'Trio Composition Competition'.
The submission deadline is 26 February 2020.

- Scan a passport or ID.
- Write a short biography.
Conditions of participation
- The competition is intended for composers around the world.
- Composers must be born after 27 February 1981 (38 years).
- The performance duration of the composition should have a maximum length of 15 minutes.
- The work may neither already have been accepted for a premiere performance, nor been performed in public, nor been awarded a prize, nor been published until the end of the International Competition Franz Schubert and Modern Music in 2021.
- The winner will be awarded a cash prize of €5 000. The amounts of prize money are stated as gross amounts. The amount actually paid out will be subject to the deduction of any taxes due in Austria, which have to be transferred by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz directly to the tax office.
- All compositions submitted will be named in the competition programme and incorporated in the library of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
Benefits
- The award-winning composition will be incorporated in the repertoire of the category Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello at the 11th International Competition Franz Schubert and Modern Music as a compulsory piece.
- The 11th International Competition Franz Schubert and Modern Music will be recorded. There will be a master recording of the prizewinning work performed by a selected ensemble.
- The winners will be invited to take part at the awards ceremony. Travel and hotel expenses will be paid by the competition.
