Call for submissions: Flute scores in the US

Since 2010, the company has enabled composers to upload works for sale via its online platform. NewMusicShelf handles all transactions and digital delivery, giving composers more time to manage all other aspects of their careers. Composers retain all rights to their work, and, because NewMusicShelf is a non-exclusive distributor, are allowed (and encouraged) to sell their works through other outlets.

Who can apply?

This call is eligible for composers of all ages and nationalities. Note that composers who are included must be able to receive royalty payments either domestically via check in US dollars or locally/internationally through PayPal.

Project eligibility

Interested composers may submit up to two works (or excerpted movements from more extensive work) for consideration.

The scores to be submitted must:

• Be original works by the composer, not arrangements of another composer's work.
• Be for solo flute or flute and piano (C Flute only - later volumes will address alto flute, etc.).
• Be under 10 minutes.
• Be published by the composer or submitted with the written approval of the publisher.

Kindly note that works with additional or alternative instrumentation (including electronics) will not be considered.

The application deadline is 31 December 2019.

How to apply

Applicants should:

• Create a PDF of the score with the following naming convention: Instrument, last name and title. For example, Jay Batzner's Dreams Grow Like Slow Ice, would be: Flute Batzner Dreams Grow Like Slow Ice.pdf.
• If available, include an MP3 of the work with the same naming convention as above. Recordings are not required, but are helpful to the curators in evaluating your work. MIDI is acceptable but not preferred.
• For works not published by the composer, please upload a copy of a letter giving you express permission to submit the work(s) in question.

Kindly note that submissions are neither anonymous nor pseudonymous and applications with incorrectly named files will be discarded.
