Ghana: DSL wins 2023 VGMAs Unsung Award
Burgeoning reggae-dancehall artist DSL was named the winner of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ (VGMAs’) Unsung Award.
The artist beat Tsaqa, Ni AShun, Aya RamzyB, Boijake and Maya Blu to annex the title, which was previously held by rapper Gambo.
“Big thanks to you all for supporting sharing and voting for me,” DSL said. “We’ve won this now. This wouldn’t be possible without your support.”
Born Lawrence Senyo Adiase, DSL is signed to Lynx Entertainment, the record label that is home to award-winning signees like KiDi, Kuami Eugene and Adina.
In January last year, DSL won the 10th edition of TV3’s Mentor music reality show, a career springboard for undiscovered local acts. Since then, he has released the well-received singles ‘Chow’ and ‘Happy’. He also contributed to the Coming Soon joint EP, alongside label mates St Lennon, Boijake and Maya Blu.
Meanwhile, Black Sherif, King Promise and Sarkodie are among the most nominated acts at this year’s VGMAs, with 15, 14 and 10 nominations each, respectively. In 2022, KiDi took home the Artist of the Year Award, which he will be hoping to retain this year.
The 2023 VGMAs will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre on 13 May. View all the nominees here.
