Ghana: KooKusi drops new EP Greetings From Abroad
Texas-based Ghanaian rapper and songwriter KooKusi has released his sophomore project titled Greetings From Abroad. The seven-track EP is available for streaming and download on all major digital platforms.
The collection derives its title from a Ghanaian TV show that aimed to connect citizens in the country to those in the diaspora. It is heralded by the single ‘No Where Cool’, and guests Arathejay, Victor Morgan, Michael Adjaloo, Li Diaw and Muyra Hub.
Thematically, Greetings From Abroad explores the pursuit of success in the Western world, and documents the challenges immigrants face in their bid to make a better life for themselves. The musician’s camp told Music In Africa that the EP “discusses living across two continents and highlights the challenges of an immigrant in the US.”
KooKusi is known for employing storytelling to explore socio-cultural and psychological connections to the science of mental health. The EP follows in the footsteps of his 2022 debut project 5 Foot 3, which was hailed as a mantra for perfect imperfections. The new collection seeks to replicate the listening experience of its predecessor.
In a statement, KooKusi’s team emphasised the musician’s interest in mental health, noting that it “has always been a topic of interest for KooKusi as he appreciates the pressure of navigating different phases in life.” The statement also notes that KooKusi is keen on “highlighting how people feel about themselves and encouraging self-love.”
