GoodLyfe crew member Mowzey Radio dies

Born Moses Ssekibogo, Mowzey who was a member of the Goodlyfe Crew passed away this morning at a local hospital in Kampala where he was admitted for the past ten days. Mowzey sustained had neck injuries after he was assaulted by a bouncer at a local hang-out spot in Entebbe town.

The singer’s death comes three days after his mother, Jane Kasubo told the media that her sons’ condition was improving.

Music In Africa spoke to a family friend Sara Kagingo who said the singer was rushed to Nsambya Hospital before he was transferred to Case Hospital where he underwent two surgeries in his head and on the neck.

Condolences to Mowzey’s friends as well as tributes began pouring in on social media shortly after the musician’s death.

“Have been told about the untimely death of musician Mowzey Radio. I had only recently made a financial contribution towards his treatment and hoped he would get better. He was a talented young person with a great future ahead of him. May he rest in peace,” Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni wrote on Twitter.

“Another beating heart stops. Rest in power brother. Such a sad day for Afrikan music #RIPRadio,” Kenyan music group Sauti Sol said.

South Sudanese dancehall artist Silver X who has collaborated with the Goodlyfe Crew on several hits told Music In Africa that Mowzey “was not only his colleague but also a friend. Working with him was one of my best moments, he was very talented, supportive and loving. May his soul rest in peace".

Speaking to Music In Africa, GoodLyfe Crew manager Musinguzi Brighton said the singer will be laid to rest at his home in Nakawuka on Saturday. “The body is currently at the Morgue,” Brighton said. “This evening he will be taken to his house in Kampala where his fans will have an opportunity to view his body at the national theatre tomorrow before he is taken to Nakawuka.”
