Listen to MB Salone’s Winna featuring Alex Marley
US-based Sierra Leonean producer and audio engineer MB Salone has released his new single ‘Winna’ featuring Alex Marley.
The song was published independently on YouTube and will be available across major digital stores from 14 May. It heralds MB Salone’s forthcoming EP, and the artist says he expects the project to amplify his stature this year.
‘Winna’, whose production was helmed by MB Salone, is founded on Afrobeats, but also contains elements of hip hop, R&B and dancehall. Thematically, the record is centered on the subject of romantic affection.
“My vision for the song is just for people to dance and have fun, not have to think about to much," MB Salone told Music In Africa.
On his choice of Alex Marley as a collaborator, MB Salone said: “The creative process started over six months before I was even introduced to Alex and I chose him as a featured artist because his vocals were different. I even had other people do verses on the song but Alex's sounded the best."
Born Mohamed Bailor Barrie, MB Salone is lauded for his unique production style, which, in the past, has secured him growing recognition. In 2017, ‘Shorty Right There’, a song he co-produced for Baltimore-renowned rapper Lil Key, was featured on MTV Network’s My Super Sweet 16 programme.
In 2018, he released his debut 16-track beat tape Da Plug, which contains heavy cultural elements, groovy bass and a radio-friendly mid-tempo bounce. The project also pays homage to his technical models, which include Johnny Juliano, Pharrell Williams and Dr Dre.
Aside from being a producer, MB Salone practices as an artist manager, blogger and social media marketer.
