MBA for Africa students launch EP crowdfunding campaign

The Music Business Academy (MBA) for Africa has launched a new crowdfunding campaign to raise ₦8m [about $19 500] toward the release of a new EP by its students on 19 November.
The MBA was founded by Nigerian talent manager and exec Godwin Tom and functions as a platform for people looking to advance their knowledge of the continent’s growing entertainment space.
The EP will mark the institution’s sophomore release after Heart On A Sleeve. The donations will go into mixing and mastering, marketing and promoting the album. The funds generated from the campaign will also facilitate a virtual listening session for select industry stakeholders to premiere the project, as well as a live recording session and multi-week production camp in Lagos, Nigeria.
“To say we are excited is an understatement, we can take our new project to greater heights with your support,” MBA said. “Our goal is to make tangible, lasting, positive changes in the musical careers of our artists. Their music is key, but there’s more to it than that.”
The MBA’s fundraising drive follows a partnership in March with digital music business information and strategy company Music Ally for the 2021 edition of the masterclass. In May, the MBA launched a women’s fund to encourage female participation at this year’s edition, with the goal of increasing female participation in the programme to 40% this year from 18% in 2020.
“Music Business Academy for Africa has been described by many as a turning point that brings hope for Africa’s booming creative ecosystem," the organisation said. “With over 150 individuals registering from different strata and cities across the continent and parts of the world, the programme also witnessed a 10% increase in participation by women in 2020.”
The crowdfunding campaign is running through 7 November. Donations can be made via the link here.
