Nigeria: Fireboy DML drops new album Apollo
Fireboy DML, the Nigerian singer best known for 2018’s ‘Jealous’, has released his sophomore album, Apollo.
Apollo was released on 20 August and is available for streaming and download on all digital platforms.
“This album is about evolution, growth, love, and pain”, the musician, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, said ahead of the release.
“Gratitude to God for blessings. Gratitude to everyone who worked with me on this album: my team (YBNL/Empire), my family and the kings who blessed this project with their presence.”
Apollo follows 2019’s well-received Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps. It comprises 17 songs and was supported with the singles ‘Eli’, ‘Tattoo’ and ‘New York City Girl’. It features guest appearances from rapper Olamide, who also served as the album's executive producer, singer Wande Coal and American hip hop artist D Smoke. Pheelz, Type A, Lambeatz and P Priime are also credited as producers on the project.
Apollo retains the highly soulful elements that the singer currently enjoys a growing reputation for. Like its predecessor, Apollo also dispatches a versatile range of sonic persuasions including R&B, folk, pop and Afrobeats.
Fireboy DML grew up performing with his local church choir. His breakthrough came in 2018 when he appeared on the YBNL Mafia Family compilation album. He has since gone on to reach impressive milestones including a 2019 City People Music Award for Best New Act of the Year and a 2020 Listeners’ Choice laurel at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards.
