Nigeria’s LadiPoe to play Lollapalooza

The festival, which will feature more than 150 performances, is the largest annual event in Chicago and attracts about 400 000 attendees each year. The Nigerian rapper will be joined by international musicians from around the world including A$AP rocky, H.E.R., Alison Wonderland, Kehlani, Masego and Tyler, The Creator, among many others.

"I’m really excited to be performing at Lollapalooza this year," LadiPoe wrote on Twitter. “The performance schedule is out Wednesday. #Lolla2020 the Revival is spreading!"

The event will also play previous performances from artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Metallica, Chance The Rapper, Paul McCartney, OutKast, Run The Jewels and Tove Lo, among others. In between the music, the show is expected to highlight the causes that are important to the legacy of the festival, the community and Chicago.

Former US first lady Michelle Obama will also make a special appearance, as well as musician and broadcaster Selema Masekela, the son of the late South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela.

Another highlight of the event will be discussions by festival founder and host Perry Farrell with Lars Ulrich, Chuck D and Matt Pinfield. Farrell will also lead a special Kind Heaven Orchestra performance featuring Taylor Hawkins, among other surprises.

Founded in 1991 as a touring festival, Lollapalooza is now among the key music destinations in the US, hosting more than 170 bands from alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock, hip hop and electro.

Meanwhile, LadiPoe’s latest single 'Know You' featuring Simi off his eponymous album debuted at number 18 on BBC 1Xtra's Official Afrobeats Chart Top 20, which was launched last week.
