Rwanda: Volkano Fest 2024 set to return this October

This year’s event is running under the theme, Unity in Rhythm, Nature, Music and Soul, and promises an immersive experience celebrating the rich diversity and creativity of the East African region.

Building on the success of previous years, Volkano Fest, now in its fourth year, is expanding its offerings to include a variety of activities that resonate with the theme.

“We have a well-curated line-up of artists from Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Congo-Brazzaville and the DRC, as well as European guest artists,” Volkano Fest creative director Rodriguez Iragena said. “We’ve also added another stage, introduced a film programme and increased wellness activities, among other things. These additions aim to enhance the overall festival experience, providing attendees with a holistic and engaging environment and unforgettable experience through a range of programmes.”

Industry night

This is an exclusive opening event featuring a thematic conversation with industry leaders, followed by a reception with artists, festival partners and friends. This event sets the stage for valuable networking and collaboration.

Film programme

The programme will present a diverse selection of films showcasing innovative storytelling and unique perspectives. The festival has created a dedicated space for film lovers, inviting them to dive into an eclectic selection curated to entertain and inspire.

Residencies, workshops and masterclasses

Focused on the transmission and exchange of knowledge and skills within the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) value chain, these sessions aim to provide practitioners in the sector a professional edge.

Live performances

Three live music stages will showcase diverse musical performances, from traditional rhythms to digital and technology-led musical trends. These performances encompass a wide spectrum of musical expression, creating an immersive and vibrant festival atmosphere, catering to all music tastes, styles and genres.

Talks and panel discussions

These educational sessions are aimed at better understanding the components of the CCIs with interventions from local, regional and international experts in policy, finance, climate, gender justice and inclusivity, as well as tourism. These discussions aim to inspire and inform attendees, fostering a deeper understanding of their intersections with the arts sector and the creative economy.

Photo exhibition

The festival has invited a collective of talented photographers to share their skills and showcase their work.

Pop-up events

In an effort to support business and entrepreneurship, the festival has started an initiative for new and upcoming brands to present their unique products.

Wellness activities

The festival has dedicated a space designed to help festivalgoers rejuvenate and re-energise through activities like yoga, meditation and health workshops.
