SA mourns TKZee member Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala

“The family requests for privacy during this difficult period,” a statement from the family reads. “All details pertaining to his memorial and funeral service will be shared in due course.”

Music organisations and artists took to social media to convey their condolences to the family and friends of Magesh.

South African musician Nkanyezi Kubheka wrote: “Rest in peace Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala. Condolences to the TKZee and Tshabalala family. Your music lives on big brother.”

The Southern African Music Rights Organisation wrote on social media: “It is with great sadness to note the passing of Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala. He will be missed by his family, friends and fans. May his soul rest in peace.”

Ambitiouz Entertainment wrote: “May the soul of the legendary kwaito star Tokollo ‘Magesh Tshabalala’ rest in eternal peace. Our condolences to the family, TKZee, friends and fans.”

Magesh gained fame through TKZee in 1994 when the trio released its debut album called Halloween. The record was a success through singles like ‘We Love This Place’ and was certified Platinum by RiSA after selling over 200 000 copies. The album won the group four awards at the South African Music Awards in the Best Kwaito Album, Best Duo/Group, Best Single and Best Kwaito Single. In 1997, the band recorded another hit single ‘Phalafala’, and a year later their chart-topper ‘Shibobo’ dedicated to the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Other albums by the group include Guz 2001 (TKZee family), Trinity, Coming Home and Guz Hits.
