Sarkodie releases six videos from new album
After several delays, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has released The Highest, his fifth studio album.
The album, which was released on 8 September, features several international guests. Kenyan and UK acts make guest appearances. But The Highest features more artists from Nigeria than from any other country, as Praiz, Yung L, Flavour, Jesse Jagz and Korede Bello make the project.
“Even from way back when there was little tension, it’s based on love,” Sarkodie said about the Ghana-Nigeria relationship. “We are too similar and we just want to prove we are original…we make the perfect combination when it comes to anything. If you put a Ghanaian guy at your back you’re safe, and if you put a Nigerian guy in front, you are good as well. When we do music you don’t see Ghana-Nigeria, you just see great music.”
Since releasing the album, the rapper has performed at a concert in Tamale and hosted a signing event at the West Hill mall in Accra, inviting such acts as Medikal and Teephlow as co-performers. Both events have been attended by hundreds of fans.
In perhaps an unprecedented move, Sarkodie released videos to six of his album’s tracks on the same day the album dropped, sparking debate online about which of the set is superior. All of the videos are now available on YouTube.
Speaking about the title, the rapper said: “No one made it to the highest without going through the lows. From that kid on the streets of Tema to selling out concerts across the globe, surely, I have come a long way. The Highest is a celebration of my achievements.”
