Shina Peters comes to Afropolitan Vibes
Famous juju musician Sir Shina Peters will be headlining the Lagos concert Afropolitan Vibes in January. The announcement comes after Peters was replaced by singer Brymo for the concert’s December 2015 edition.
Rap duo Show Dem Camp will be performing at the event as well. Completing the trio of performers is the singer Simi. Show Dem Camp last year joined the artist collective The Collectiv3 and contributed a song to the group’s debut released in the closing months of last year.
2015 was unarguably a big year for Simi. The mellow-voiced singer followed her 2014 single ‘Tiff’ with ‘Jamb Question’ and its remix with rapper Falz. The song Jamb Question was well-received and the Mex directed video was nominated for Best Video at the 2015 Headies.
Expectations have been high since Shina Peters was announced as headliner, with fans cheering on social media. The juju singer's appearances at mainstream music events have been irregular. Perhaps his most popular appearance was on the 2010 song 'Like a Bottle', which was recorded alongside MI, Nneka, Bez, Kas and Ice Prince. Peters also performed at the Hennessy Rave concert held last month.
Afropolitan Vibes is a monthly concert in Lagos, Nigeria. It is held at Freedom Park usually on the third Friday of every month. The first edition in 2016 is, however, set to take place on Friday 22 January. As usual, along with selected headliners, hosts Ade Bantu and band will be performing.
