Sony Music West Africa signs Nigeria's T-Classic
Sony Music West Africa has signed Nigerian Afrobeats musician T-Classic.
- T-Classic's deal with Sony should see the artist's music reach more ears.
The signing was revealed in Lagos on Friday. T-Classic burst onto the Nigerian music scene in 2017 with 'I Want You' and 'Isabella'. Since then, he has gained widespread recognition and an impressive fan base in West Africa.
He also boasts collaborations with big names such as Tiwa Savage, Peruzzi, Mayorkun and DJ Kaywise, among other influential artists.
Sony Music West Africa head of PR and marketing Jim Donnett said T-Classic’s deal with the record label would see the artists expand his reach on the international music scene.
"T-Classic’s star prowess is undeniable and it’ll be good to see him enjoy the same measure of success and recognition that many of his young and high-flying colleagues are experiencing in their various careers,” Donnett told Music In Africa.
“His deal with Sony gives him an edge over them in that it puts him in a potential global situation to level up with internationally acclaimed stars."
Sony Music West Africa has hinted that a new T-Classic EP could be released at the end of February.
T-Classic’s Sony deal comes almost a year after the release of his Iambeatz-produced 2019 hit ‘Nobody Fine Pass You’. The track has garnered the artists almost 4.5 million views on YouTube.
T-Classic is the second artist signed by Sony Music West Africa this year, after the label inked a deal with singer Ona Dema, a female singer-songwriter whose music has been described as a mixture of pop, fusion and alternative.
