Tyla gets three nominations at 2024 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards
South African popstar Tyla is eyeing three trophies at the 2024 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards slated for 13 July.
The ceremony will be hosted by the lead characters from American animated TV series SpongeBob SquarePants – Spongebob voiced by Tom Kenny and Patrick Star voiced by Bill Fagerbakke – to mark the show’s 25th anniversary. The two characters will present awards to children’s favourite influencers in film, music, TV and sports during a live telecast
Tyla, 22, has been shortlisted in the Favorite Breakout Artist category alongside American acts Coco Jones, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Reneé Rapp, Teddy Swims, Victoria Monét and Tate McRae.
She is also up for the Favorite Global Music Star Award, against BLACKPINK (Asia), Troye Sivan (Australia/NZ), Zara Larsson (Europe), Karol G (Latin America), Taylor Swift (North America) and Dua Lipa (UK).
Additionally, her 2023 hit ‘Water’ is vying for Favorite Viral Song alongside Benson Boone’s ‘Beautiful Things’, David Kushner’s ‘Daylight’, Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’, Tate McRae’s ‘Greedy’ and Paul Russell ‘Lil Boo Thang’.
Tyla gained global recognition thanks to her 2023 viral song ‘Water’. The track is part of her eponymous debut LP, which recently surpassed 1 billion streams.
Meanwhile, Kairo Forbes, the daughter of the late South African rapper AKA, has been nominated in the Favorite African Kidfluencer category, competing against Johannesburg musical trio Biko’s Manna, Dream Catchers Academy (Nigeria), DJ Wysei (Nigeria) and Afrobeats icon Wizkid’s son Boluwatife Balogun (Nigeria).
Elsewhere, Taylor Swift leads the 2024 Kids’ Choice Awards with six nominations. Following her are Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo and Justin Timberlake, each with four nominations.
