Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2019: Full list of nominees

Charterhouse Ghana, the outfit in charge of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), has released the list of nominees for 2019.

Adina's 'Killing Me Softly' has received a nomination ahead of the 2019 VGMAs.

Speaking at the event at which the nominees were announced, Charterhouse CEO Theresa Ayoade thanked players and establishments that have made the VGMAs, which are now in their 20th year, a success.

"From using a wooden plaque as awards to the many criticisms we have had in the past years, thanks to individuals in the creative arts industry who have solidly been behind this award," she said.

"Twenty years is no joke and the awards have attracted a rich cultural mix of Ghanaians, Nigerians, South Africans and other people from other parts of the world who share similar cultural values."

The nnominees list has some of the usual suspects in Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale. All three are up for the coveted Artist of the Year Award, which was awarded posthumously to Ebony. Younger acts Kuami Eugene, King Promise and Kidi also make this year’s list.

Among the women nominated are Adina, whose 'Killing Me Softly' is up for a Highlife Song of the Year Award, Wendy Shay, whose 'Uber Driver' is in the Afropop Song of the Year category and Joyce Blessing, who received a nomination for Gospel Song of the Year.

The winners will be announced at the main awards ceremony on 18 May.
