Watch Davido celebrate the Nigerian woman

This morning, the Nigerian act shared the video for his new single online with the words: “Official video out now! ‘Wonder Woman’, which is a celebration of women who have excelled in their endeavours. Link in my bio. Watch and enjoy!”

The video intercuts images showing the pop artist alone singing about his “special woman” and berating a man trying to woo his woman with a series of Nigerian women, some of whom sing along to the new song.

The women include, among others, Adetutu, a model who has spoken publicly about having faced problems because of her tribal marks; Uche Pedro, founder of the Bella Naija platform; Omawumi, singer and songwriter; and Abisoye Ajayi-Akinfolarin, founder of an establishment raising girl coders. It ends with the artist's girlfriend Chioma, a chef who received attention months ago when she appeared in the video for 'Assurance'.

In a lyrical style recognisable to his fans, Davido, owner of a record label and son of a billionaire, alludes to his financial power. “If na pounds or dollar, dollar / I go send you figure when you go manya manya,” he sings. “Wells Fargo near me / Me, I go run am o.”
