Nigerian Afrobeats artist Davido appeared on US TV programme The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on 14 July.
The ‘Blow My Mind’ hitmaker, alongside a live band, performed a medley of his songs such as ‘D & G' and ‘Fall’ off his 2019 sophomore album A Good Time. Davido, who has featured international stars such as Chris Brown, Popcaan and Meek Mill, is expected to release his third album A Better Time in August.
On the same day, fellow Nigerian musician Rema made his debut appearance on US late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! alongside his four-piece band. The Afrobeats singer performed ‘Iron Man’, which appeared on former US President Barrack Obama’s 2019 Summer Playlist.
Signed to Mavin Records, Rema was in June named Apple Music’s Up Next artist. He has earned a huge following with his youth-led sound, which has spread across Africa and around the world. Since the launch of his 2019 eponymous debut EP, he has become the eighteenth most-played World Artist on Apple Music based on lifetime plays.
Davido and Rema add to the growing list of Nigerian artists who have made appearances on US late night TV shows. In 2019, Burna Boy appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah as well as Kimmel’s show, while Mr Eazi featured on The Late Show with James Corden in 2017.
