Watch Tiwa Savage play NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Tiny Desk Concerts are a series of live gigs created by musician and NPR broadcaster Bob Boiler. The performances are traditionally hosted at his desk in Washington, D.C.

Tiwa Savage's NPR gig follows her 20 August debut appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. For Tiny Desk Concerts, she performed ‘Dangerous Love’, ‘Attention’ and ‘Koroba’  – all songs taken from her recently released album Celia. She also rendered ‘Like’, a 2017 collaboration with fellow Nigerian musician Reekado Banks.

She was backed by the Alternate Sound band, which also accompanied her on The Tonight Show. The 15-minute live set was shot at the Jazzhole, a historic vinyl shop in Lagos where the singer recreated a scaled-down version of the Tiny Desk set.

Speaking about Tiny Desk, Tiwa expressed what a big fan she is of the platform, which also hosted Burna Boy in late 2019.

"As much as I would have loved to have performed at Bob’s desk, I am really honoured to have captured my session in my home city of Lagos, Nigeria. The Jazzhole is a happy place for me and always feels like home,” Tiwa Savage said.

“Naturally, we would have been there in person, but we all know what’s going on in the world right now,” she said during the show. “We’re in a weird time, trying to heal, fight for peace and justice , so I want to implore everyone ... to use music as one of the tools for us to heal.

Celia is Tiwa Savage’s third album after Once Upon a Time (2013) and R.E.D (2015). It boasts collaborations from Nigerians Davido, Naira Marley, Dice Ailes and Adekunle Gold as well as British artists Stefflon Don and Sam Smith.
