The International Afro-Pfingsten Festival in Winterthur, Switzerland, has announced the lineup of artist that will perform at the event’s 30 anniversary between 27 May and 1 June 2020.
Over 60 000 visitors are expected to attend the event, which is this year themed Diversity, Fairness, and Respect.
This lineup includes artists creating Afrobeats, reggae, Afrofunk, Afrosoul, and traditional-modern African music. The artists include Yuri da Cunha (Angola), Fally Ipupa (Congo DRC), Angela Carruzzo (Côte d'Ivoire/Switzerland), Snow Flakes (Togo), Murphy (DRC/Switzerland), Siti & the Band (Tanzania), Sona Jobarteh (Gambia), Santrofi (Ghana), Tiken Jah Fakoly (Ivory Coast), Valérie Ekoumè (Cameroon) and Malina Djely Tapa, Habib Koité and Tamikrest. Others are Jamaicans Gyptian, Turbulence, LMK and Jah Mason as well as Mellow Mood (Italy) and LMK (France).
Apart from the showcases, the festival will also have music and dance workshops as well as a 300-stand market where art associations, NGOs and cultural professionals will exhibit African products including perfumes and spices.
“Since 1990, Winterthur is transformed every year into a rhythm-driven, fragrant and colourful festival on the Whitsun weekend,” Festival Manager and artistic director Ananda Geissberger said.
“We are pleased to present a hot, musical firework display with well-known artists and musical discoveries from across the continent. We will present a huge range of African beauty including fashion, music, dance and more, the festivals market area will turn into a place, where one can experience Africa’s spirit as concentrated as never before.”
