The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

ACCES Conference and Showcase Festival is Africa's leading music industry gathering, bringing together the people shaping the future of the continent's music business. Artists, entrepreneurs, executives, investors, policymakers and cultural leaders from across Africa and around the world come to ACCES to build partnerships, exchange ideas, discover talent and create new business opportunities. Since its launch in 2017, ACCES has become the continent's premier platform for professional exchange and music market development. Combining a high-level conference with a curated showcase festival, networking, exhibitions and industry programmes, ACCES offers a unique space where creativity meets business and where African music connects with the global industry.

Music In Africa Gender @ Work is a three-year training programme aimed at upskilling and increasing the participation of female professionals in the African music sector. Launched by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) in April 2019, the programme is connected to the MIAF’s ACCES music conference – a pan-African event held in a different African country every year. This connection enables the programme to reach new participants in a different African country every year. The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. Over the three years, the programme will aim to address gender imbalances in the sector through training, lobbying, facilitating knowledge exchange and dialogues that foster the interest of women. The broader objectives of the programme are to: Provide industry training for women on critical music industry skills, focusing on: Stage management Electronic music production and recording Music business management Technical knowledge Provide an opportunity for both professional and aspiring women to benefit from the Music In Africa network and its broad range of activities in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Provide a solution-based platform in the form of a round table at ACCES with a view to identify challenges, discuss opportunities and lobby for the interests of female practitioners. Offer participants the opportunity to benefit from programmes offered by MIAF’s partners. Increase access to educational materials. Integrate participants in the broader ACCES programme to maximise experience and exposure to the industry. Record and present training materials on the www.musicinafrica.net, including but not limited to tutorials, templates and other best-practice materials. Communicate women-based themes that support the initiatives and messages of the programme. MAIN TRAINING ACTIVITIES Training in first country (Ghana): In the first year, participants will be trained on all aspects of stage management by a team of experienced stage managers from 10 to 17 November 2019. The programme will offer robust classroom training as well as practical, hands-on training in which participants will also be given the opportunity to manage various aspects of the ACCES performance programme. Training in second country: The second training iteration will take place at ACCES 2020 when the programme will diversify its course to include music production lessons and training on other music business topics. A round-table platform will also be introduced to coincide with the ACCES programme. Training in third country: The third training iteration will take place at ACCES 2021 in a different country, offering an advanced course. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED?  As a participant, facilitator or trainer: The programme enrolls up to 12 trainees every year. Cnky Siwela Flute Institute is a leading music school that offers training and performance opportunities to young musicians in South Africa. Under the guidance of award-winning singer, flautist, and composer Cnky Siwela, the school has formed an outstanding band and ensemble that performs a unique blend of genres, from jazz and blues to Neo-Soul and pop.
The Cnky Siwela Flute Institute Ensemble is a dynamic and passionate group dedicated to creating meaningful music that resonates with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

The Cnky Siwela Flute Institute has recently released a 5-track EP called "The Experimental" which has been making waves in the South African music scene. The EP features collaborations with renowned South African icons including McCoy Mrubata, Lucille Slade, MXO, Mmatema Moremi, and Sliq Angel. The tracks have already gained traction and been playlisted on major South African radio stations such as Metro FM, Ukhozi FM, UmhloboWenene Radio, Lesedi FM, and Motweding FM, cementing the band's reputation as a rising force in the industry.

The band is comprised of exceptional musicians from all over the African continent and features some of the country’s renown icons, and most promising young talent in the industry. They have performed at a number of high-profile events, including the Inaugural Tsa lapeng youth Jazz Orchestra Festival and the Tshwane All White Jazz Benefit Concert, where they shared the stage with the likes of Mmatema Moremi, Don Laka, and Cnky Siwela himself.

Cnky Siwela Flute Institute is also committed to providing high-quality music education to underserved communities, offering theory and practical training on orchestral and rhythm instruments to youth aged 6-35 in Stinkwater, far north of Pretoria. The school is aligned with the international music syllabus of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM-UK) and Unisa Music Directorate, and provides scholarships to promising young musicians to take graded music examinations through credible institutions like ABRSM, Trinity, and UNISA.

Together, we create music that speaks to the heart and soul, exploring themes of love, loss, and self-discovery through powerful lyrics and unforgettable melodies. OBJECTIVES

The Cnky Siwela Flute Institute (CSFI) has a range of objectives that are centered on empowering marginalised and vulnerable youth and women through music education and performance programs. One of their primary goals is to encourage critical thinking skills and foster empowerment to prevent and combat gender-based violence.

To achieve these objectives, CSFI offers scholarships to talented flautists in rural areas to further develop their playing abilities, with the ultimate goal of providing them with the necessary skills to pursue music as a professional career. The Institute also conducts a series of Jazz Flute Workshops and music education concerts in underrepresented communities to expand access to quality music education.

Additionally, the CSFI is dedicated to developing, producing, and managing the festival of flute ensemble and the annual Inside Art Youth Orchestra Festival. These events provide a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents and connect with the wider music industry.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

CSFI provides the highest quality training and performance opportunities, while making our programmes accessible to rural communities through outreach. Also provides outstanding pre-professional weekly musical training, personal support and intervention at no cost to hundreds of young artists aged 8-35, each year in rural communities and remote corners of big cities to give promising participants scholarships to take graded music examinations though credible music institutions like ABRSM, Trinity and UNISA, performance opportunities organised for advanced participants with professional artists on a professional concert stage. We also award best flutists an advanced music studies in Belgium with Prof. Marc Grauwels.

SUCCESS STORIES

2023:
• Premier interview and performance on SABC Morning Live, showcasing the Institute's talent and contributions to the music industry.
• CSFI is invited to perform in Gabon in July, providing an opportunity for the Institute to showcase its talent and unique musical style on an international stage. This recognition further highlights the Institute's contributions to the music industry and its commitment to promoting music education and performance opportunities in underserved communities, both locally and globally.

2022:
• Recorded and released a 5-track EP titled "The Experimental", showcasing the Institute's unique blend of jazz-influenced flute melodies and soulful vocals into Neo-Soul Jazz.
• Four of the Institute's songs from the EP were playlisted on major South African radio stations, including Metro FM, Ukhozi FM, Umhlobo Wenene, Lesedi FM, and Motsweding FM.
• Created jobs for more than 20 artists, providing employment opportunities in the music industry.

2018:
• CSFI students and teachers attended a Flute masterclass in Belgium, Wavre hosted by Prof Marc Grawels, expanding their musical knowledge and skills through international education and collaboration.
These achievements demonstrate the Institute's commitment to excellence in music education, performance, and innovation, as well as its impact on the music industry and the communities it serves.

2014:
• In 2014, CSFI received a Gold certificate and prize money at the 12th annual Unisa youth music festival in the Tshwane metro, further highlighting the Institute's dedication to excellence in music education and performance.

2011
• In 2011, CSFI flute students attended flute master classes with talented musicians Francesca Canali (Austria) and Bruno Meirs (UK), indicating the Institute's commitment to providing its students with access to world-class training and mentorship.

2009 - 2023:
• From 2009 to 2023, CSFI participants have had numerous performance opportunities at prestigious events, including the Inaugural Tsa lapeng youth Jazz Orchestra Festival, the Tshwane All White Jazz Benefit Concert, and sharing the stage with notable artists such as MXO, Mmatema Moremi, Don Laka, McCoy Mrubata, Lucille Slade and Cnky Siwela himself. These performances not only showcase the Institute's talent and musical style, but also provide valuable exposure and networking opportunities for its students and faculty.
