NEFCISA

The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

The programme marks the beginning of a more concerted effort by the Foundation to support the participation and inclusion of women in all facets of its programmes and the music sector in Africa as a whole. For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

BIO

Juliana Kanyomozi, popularly known by the mononym Juliana, is a Ugandan female musician, actress, and entertainer. She was born in Uganda on 27 November 1980. She attended Namasagali College in Kamuli District, for her high school education.

Juliana rose to fame in the late 1990s as one half of the all-girl duo I-Jay, with Iryn Namubiru. The group's single titled 'Vive la Vie' was a popular record on Ugandan radio stations at that time. After the duo disbanded, Juliana launched a solo career.

Kanyomozi has also collaborated with Bobi Wine on songs such as: 'Taata Wa Baana Yaani?' (Who is the Father of the Kids?) and 'Maama Mbiire'. She worked with Sweet Kid on the track 'Sirinaayo Mulala' (I don't have anyone else) and with Klear Kut on the song 'All I Wanna Know'. At one time, Juliana hosted a morning radio program on Capital FM Radio in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and the largest city in that country.

More recently, she has performed with Tanzanian artist, Bushoke on 'Usiende Mbali' (Do not go far). She has won and been nominated for numerous music awards such as HiPipo Music Awards, PAM, Kisima and Befta among others. In 2008, Juliana was voted 'Uganda's Fashion Icon'. Juliana Kanyomozi was the first female musician to win the Pearl Of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards) 'Artist Of the Year' accolade.
In 2008, she made her film debut in Henry Ssali's 'Kiwani: The Movie'.

She still holds the record of having won the Artist of the year award for the two consecutive years 2008 and 2009. In 2009, she was one of the three judges at the Tusker Project Fame, an East African talent show. Also in 2009, she worked on her new album, which includes the single: 'Kantambule'.

In March 2014 she signed with international Cosmetics Company Oriflame to be one of their East African brand ambassadors together with Lady JayDee of Tanzania and Jamila Mbugua of Kenya.
