Lady May

BIO

Born Martha Namundjebo on 20 December 1986 in Kwanza Sul, Angola, Lady May developed a passion for singing when she was a teenager. In 1994, she relocated to Windhoek, Namibia.

In 2004 her single ‘Lady 4 Life’ saw her named Best Female Artist at the NBC-Sanlam Music Awards. In 2005, Lady May released her debut album 'Kamaali'. It was followed in 2006 by 'Come And Get Me'. Both earned numerous award nominations, including in theArtist of the Year category. She was also honored with a Channel O Africa Music Award for Best Dance Music Video in 2008. In 2008 the artist performed at the Big Brother Africa 3 eviction show in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In 2009 she was invited to perform at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) and YAAM club in Berlin, Germany. That year she also released her third album 'Pink Chokolate!'. It was followed in 2010 by ‘Tiger Ambitions’. In January 2011, Lady May signed to Big Ear Records in South Africa and released her fifth album ‘I AM: African Goddess’ earning airplay in Namibia and South Africa. In June 2011 she received a NAMA for Best House Music, but after verbally attacking the audience was sent out of the hall and had to give back the award. She soon apologized through a press conference. In 2013 she released a new album, ‘Crazy Desires’, on the German label Faluma.
