This year’s Ghana Music Awards USA has been postponed indefinitely.
A statement signed by Executive Board Chairman of the scheme, Dennis K. Boafo explained that the decision was occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our team is currently working on a new date pending the revision of government and state restriction protocols and advice from our health experts.”
The ceremony was originally slated for 3 July in Springfield, Virginia but now stands in limbo in the wake of COVID-19.
Though a new date has yet to be announced, organisers have disclosed that a ceremony to unveil nominees, which was also postponed, will now hold virtually on Saturday 11 July. Top acts like Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Kofi Kinaata will all expect to secure nominations, considering that they have been fixtures in Ghana's music industry in the year under review.
SP Kofi Sarpong, comedian DKB, Wendy Shay, and Article Wan have all been named as performers for the event.
“The Ghana Music Awards – USA team fully supports all measures to protect the health, safety and welfare of the entertainment industry players as well as the patrons of our events both in Ghana and USA,” said organisers who add that they will continue to abide by state directives in order to ensure the protection of lives.
Ghana Music Awards USA is put together by Don’s Music Production in partnership with 2Geez Entertainment and Highlife Media USA.
