2Shotz and his ordeal with the Nigerian Police

Nigerian Rapper 2Shot, who shot to fame in 2002, with his dual effort "So delicious", with the talented Big-Lo, had a less than auspicious start to the year, when he was arrested and detained by the Nigerian Police, on the evening of 10 January 2015. 2Shotz' account being that on the said date, he was stopped at a Police check-point at Ajah, Lagos, by a Police patrol and detained on a trumped charge of driving up a one-way street, after his refusal to succumb to the attempts of the Police to extort money from him.

His instagram account of his experience went viral and sparked outrage amongst his fans and the public in general. The story was to have a happier outcome than the beginnings might have suggested, when he receved an invitation from the Nigerian Police Public Relations Office, at the Lagos State Police Command Ikeja. His complaints were taken on board and acted upon, with the Officers in question summoned to explain their conduct.

This seemed to be satisfactory to 2Shotz, who posted, this result and photographs on his Instagram page. Whilst this outcome was probably assisted by his status, as a popular musician, the fact still remains that his ordeal is similar to that faced by ordinary Nigerians on a daily basis. The Police PR department, was at pains to appeal to Nigerians to exploit its formal complaints procedure, via the Police Public Relations Department at Oduduwa Street, Ikeja Lagos, which procedure it emphasised, is taken very seriously.
