The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) is proud of its partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as a Strategic Implementing Partner (SIP) for its Social Employment Fund (SEF). Through this collaboration, MIAF is running a national programme that is creating jobs, addressing skills gaps, and strengthening South Africa's creative industries — in line with the SEF's overarching goal to generate work for the common good and build community value through employment, social contribution, and inclusive economic participation. Operating under the banner NEFCISA (National Employment Facility for Creative Industries in South Africa), the initiative is recruiting and training participants, matching them with host organisations, and has already placed 1 500 workers across the country — surpassing its original target of 1 000. NEFCISA is delivered through a network of 20 host organisations spanning five provinces, who are actively hosting participants and contributing to work for the common good across South Africa's creative and cultural industries. Key Objectives: Support employment and entrepreneurship in the creative industries. Offer skills development and training programmes. Foster partnerships between public and private creative sectors. Promote South African creativity at both provincial and national levels Foster community development through social contribution.

For cultural and creative practitioners and organisations operating in southern Africa, access to funding remains a major challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic has also had a massive impact on government policy, spending and the economy in general, and has seen spending on culture being moved further down the list of priorities. Further, the cultural and creative industries repeatedly cite four main areas where investment is needed for growth, which are increased visibility, mobility including access to new markets, finance and support structures.

B2B music platform 7digital has announced a new partnership with video-sharing social-media app Lomotif.

The deal will give Lomotif users access to 7digital's extensive music catalogue.

The partnership comes fast on the heels of Lomotif's recently launched feature Orginal Sounds, which lets users create and remixing your authentic, audio on the app.

7digital provides companies and brands access to its global music catalogue and rights management system. The two-year agreement will see Lomotif streaming licensed music and clips from major labels to its users directly from 7digital. The social media networking service will also use 7digital’s back-end reporting tools for labels and publishers.

“As a leader in end-to-end music solutions, 7digital has supported some of the biggest social media companies in the industry throughout their tremendous growth, and it’s great to add another rising social media platform to the roster,” 7digital CEO Paul Langworthy said. “This contract also reflects the increasing transitioning of our pricing model to align revenue with usage that expands as the customer grows. We are at an exciting inflection point where our deal momentum is providing significant improvement in revenues and each new contract adds to our growing base of recurring licence fees, with contracted licensing revenue for 2022 already surpassing 2021 levels by 21%.”

The new agreement follows Lomotif’s licensing agreement with Universal Music Group in July last year. 7digital operates in more than 80 markets and over 300 000 labels and publishers. Following the announcement, the company’s shares rose 14%.

Headquartered in Singapore, Lomotif is majority-owned by ZVV Media Partners. The app boasts partnerships with companies including Snapchat and LiveXLive, and has also been working with music festivals on livestreams. Its users span West Africa, Asia and the Americas, among other markets.
